Wind River Releases Core Data from the Nelson 9-14 Well at Phat City, Montana

October 11, 2012 – Denver, Colorado

Denver, Colorado - Wind River Energy Corp / TSX-V: WVR (“Wind River”) is pleased to release core data from the Nelson 9-14 well drilled at Phat City, Montana. Following the completion of drilling activities on June 5, 2012 sidewall cores retrieved from the Nisku, Bakken/Three Forks, Charles ‘C’ and Frontier formations were sent to the lab for detailed analysis.

Highlights

  • Oil and gas saturation exceeded 59% in the Upper Bakken Shale.

  • High oil saturation in the Upper Bakken confirms maturity of the shale and confirms that oil generation has occurred within the Phat City prospect area.

  • Porosity and oil saturation in the Bakken/Three Forks formation, adjacent to the Upper Bakken shale, confirm storage capacity for oil. It is anticipated that horizontal drilling and multi-stage fracturing will be required for commercial oil production from the Bakken/Three Forks, similar to Bakken/Three Forks production in the central Williston Basin.

A summary of the data is shown in the table below:

Alan O’Hare, CEO and President of the Company said “The presence of oil in multiple formations is encouraging and supports the concept that the fault system at Phat City is trapping oil over a large vertical spectrum. This data also supports the conclusions of Wind River’s NI 51-101 report* that indicated potential future development of the Bakken/Three Forks at Phat City.”

*Integrated Petroleum Technologies, Inc. “NI 51-101 F1 Wind River Energy Corp., Statement of Reserves Data And Other Oil and Gas Information as of September 30, 2011” dated January 9, 2012.  This report can be found on SEDAR as filed by the company.
